Therapist

Elisavet-Alexandra Kontrafouri (she/her)

Psychologist – Psychotherapist | Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

For me, psychotherapy is first and foremost a collaborative relationship.

I do not believe that the therapist’s role is to provide ready-made answers or tell someone how they should live their life. The goal is to create a space together where we can understand what is causing difficulty, what may be maintaining that difficulty, and what can gradually begin to change.

In my work, I aim to create an environment that is safe, human, and non-judgmental, while also active and meaningful. For me, therapy does not end with insight alone. What matters is that what we discover in the session can gradually translate into real changes in everyday life.

My professional journey has brought me close to people in very different circumstances: in private practice, in hospital settings, in the context of chronic and oncological illness, during periods of crisis, within a multidisciplinary prevention and well-being framework, and in the modern workplace.

These diverse experiences have deeply shaped the way I understand both people and therapy. A person is always more than a symptom, a diagnosis, or a professional or social role.

For this reason, although my work is grounded in a structured and evidence-based therapeutic approach, I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all form of therapy. Every person comes with their own story, needs, difficulties, and strengths.

My goal is for therapy not only to provide relief from a symptom, but also to help the person in front of me understand themselves more deeply, develop tools they can use beyond the therapy room, and gradually feel that they have greater freedom and more choices in the way they live their life.

I look forward to meeting you, getting to know you, and working with you.

Kindly, Elisavet

Approaches

My primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

CBT is a structured and evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.

The therapeutic process is collaborative and tailored to the needs, difficulties, and personal goals of each client. Together, we explore patterns of thinking and behavior that may be maintaining a difficulty and work toward developing more functional ways of managing it.

An important part of my work also involves behavior change. Knowing what we “should” do for our health or well-being is often not enough to help us actually do it. Therapy can support the identification of barriers, habits, and patterns that interfere with change, while also helping to develop realistic strategies so that new behaviors can become integrated into and sustained in everyday life.

My training also includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBT-P) and Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R), as well as specialized training in techniques for processing and rescripting negative experiences in personality disorders.

Participations & Memberships

Alongside my clinical and professional work, I participate as a speaker in scientific conferences and multidisciplinary events.

My scientific interests focus particularly on the connection between mental and physical health, the psychological dimensions of chronic and oncological illness, behavior change, quality of life, and the promotion of overall well-being.
